March of the Hummingbirds

Part of the Only Human Exhibition. March of the hummingbirds is an ongoing piece of work in memory of my mother and all the uncles and aunties who didn’t like talking about themselves. A lifetime project documenting my homelands in the islands (Trinidad and Mauritius) that links the lives of ordinary British Commonwealth people who settled in South London and Notting Hill. One might consider this a Windrush tale, but that would be unfair to the histories of the lesser known indentured people that were also intwined into British and European history. This work gives gentle and loving context to the complexities of the West Indies with a compassionate eye upon those who communicated differently. A hope of a legacy that might continue when I too have joined my elders. (Full set of images are part of a touring exhibition which are not online for the moment)
